The Trails & Rails Museum has six historic buildings to tour through, as well as livery barn and an authentic Union Pacific steam engine and caboose. The archive building is used by researchers all over the world. We have acquired the land to the west of us and can almost double in size. Join us for several special events through-out the year! We are located on the original Mormon Trail Route (current 11th St.)

Firefighter museum moving next to archway: The Nebraska Firefighters Museum is leasing land and relocating to Archway Parkway, where it will build a new facility east of Kearney near the Great Platte River Road Archway.

A few years ago, the Nebraska Firefighters Foundation purchased a plot of land along the Platte River south of Kearney. This piece of land had two existing buildings that would need to be renovated and redesigned to house the Nebraska Firefighters Museum & Education Center. Demolition and reconstruction began on the interior of these buildings, but there was much to accomplish to make this location a primary destination point for Interstate travelers.

Kearney, Nebraska

General, History, Historic House, University

The Frank House was designed by George William Frank, Jr. for his parents who lived in the house until 1900. It was the first house west of the Missouri River to be wired for electricity during its construction (1886-1889.) In 1907 the Frank House became a part of the Nebraska State Tuberculosis Hospital and was used as living quarters for the hospital’s staff until 1972. The Frank House is now an integral part of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
