The Museum per se was established about 40 years ago in the old County Jail. We have recently revitalized it, weeded the collection and embarked on considerable document cataloging and preservation.

Message from Founder John Hargiss: I welcome and thank everyone who has shown support for the Benson History and Welcome Center. Our goal is to educate and preserve the history of this community that my heart is so connected to.

Housed in the old White Star filling station and rural school, the museum is dedicated to the preservation and display of Boone County history. The Boone County Historical Society Museum has many indoor and outdoor exhibits that many will find to be both intriguing and educational.

The Society meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The hours vary during the year.They are at 7:30 P.M. October thru April, and at 8:00P.M. May thru September,at the Brown County Historical Society-Coleman House located 1 block north of Hiway 20 on Old Hiway 7 on the left side.

The Trails & Rails Museum has six historic buildings to tour through, as well as livery barn and an authentic Union Pacific steam engine and caboose. The archive building is used by researchers all over the world. We have acquired the land to the west of us and can almost double in size. Join us for several special events through-out the year! We are located on the original Mormon Trail Route (current 11th St.)
