The Museum houses an extensive natural history exhibit (over 200 native species represented) including 3 extinct species and unusual individual animals. Also on-site is a live birds of prey exhibit, native reptiles, fish and an assortment of other New England focused displays. Adjacent to the Hogback Mountain Conservation Area, museum visitors have easy access to over 600 protected acres of trails and views of three States.

The Museum is located on a 110-acre site along the Connecticut River, and the Museums' outdoor environment is a large part of the visitor experience. Science Park is a two-acre exhibit area in a beautiful, park-like setting where hands-on exploration of hydraulics truly becomes an immersion experience. Also outside is a network of easy-to-moderate walking trails for visitors of all ages and fitness levels, and an outdoor pavilion.
