At the Historical Society, we believe that understanding the past is crucial for shaping the future. By documenting and preserving Harrah's history, we hope to inspire future generations to learn from the past and build a brighter future.

Mission

Our society is dedicated to uncovering and preserving the fascinating history of Harrah and the surrounding areas. From the earliest settlements to the present day, we aim to document and share the stories that have shaped our community.

History

The Harrah Historical Society was established in 1977. It was started to preserve an old Rock Island train depot. It has since developed into the Harrah History Center that includes the refurbished depot, a museum, and old shoe shop, with manicured grounds.

Artifact Collections

Numerous items including from the rich Polish ancestry, and many local artifacts and items.

Research Collections

Familiy histories including early day Polish settlers, transcribed interviews, cemetery records, businesses, organizations, Potawatomi Indian allotments, school records, Church records . . .

Programs

We entertain various groups such as local high school future leaders, local high school reunion groups and more.

Governance

Harrah Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
